EXOTICS
What do we mean when we say something is exotic? Most of us probably think of a tropical paradise or a delicious mango smoothie. However, the term 'exotic' is much broader than you’d think. Everything that grows or lives in an area from which it didn’t originate is considered an exotic species. The standard house sparrow in Australia, for example, is an invader that has only been flying around the country since the 19th century — meaning a sparrow is exotic in Australia! However, exotic species are sometimes very useful. For example, some exotic species are used to combat plant and animal pests. However, others can be nuisances — and we don't mean your smoothie bottle that won't open.
